Did last year go so fast it got to the
Speaker:end of the year and you just thought I
Speaker:didn't get anywhere near the things I
Speaker:wanted to get done? Are you already
Speaker:behind on your goals for 2025? Maybe
Speaker:you don't even have any goals for 2025?
Speaker:If that's you, listen 'cause I'm
Speaker:gonna give you some answers on how you're
Speaker:gonna change that for this year.
Speaker:I'm Ian Hawkins and this is Sporty's
Speaker:life. The purpose of sport, as I
Speaker:see it, is to see your vision become a
Speaker:reality, find your voice, create
Speaker:strong connections and learn to trust
Speaker:your body.
Speaker:Back then I was. I've
Speaker:wait. I was going
Speaker:nowhere in my career.
Speaker:Working really hard, trying really hard,
Speaker:not really getting anywhere. I was not
Speaker:healthy. I was bringing my
Speaker:frustration home from work to the
Speaker:people that I cared about the most.
Speaker:And yeah, not
Speaker:not being the sort of father that I
Speaker:wanted to be, not being the sort of
Speaker:husband that I wanted to be, not being
Speaker:the sort of friend I wanted to be, and
Speaker:really just not happy with who I was.
Speaker:And it wasn't until I started making
Speaker:plans for my life just to actually set
Speaker:proper goals, but but just as important
Speaker:is to put those plans in place, have the
Speaker:stepping stones. But it wasn't until
Speaker:I hired my first coach when I learned
Speaker:those skills that I realised just how
Speaker:beneficial they were.
Speaker:No. If you're
Speaker:watching this, and
Speaker:hopefully I've done a good job of getting
Speaker:the image of the before and after shots,
Speaker:but if you're just listening to this on
Speaker:the podcast platforms, the first shot is
Speaker:me lying on the bed after a big night.
Speaker:Like I said, overweight. Not
Speaker:looking healthy at all. And then the
Speaker:after is Fast forward about 10
Speaker:years. Fittest and healthiest I've
Speaker:been since I was a teenager.
Speaker:Because I had plans, because I was really
Speaker:determined in how I wanted to change my
Speaker:life. At the time, my body was riddled
Speaker:with pain. I was tired all the time. I
Speaker:thought I must have had a serious illness
Speaker:because I was just. Almost hoping I
Speaker:have a serious illness that will be
Speaker:explained to people why I was always
Speaker:complaining and tired and weary and all
Speaker:those different things and all these
Speaker:injuries from football, you know,
Speaker:broken both my feet, broke my both my
Speaker:ankles, my back had gone trying to lift
Speaker:kids in and out of the car. And
Speaker:I, yeah, just aches and pains.
Speaker:And I didn't want life to be that way.
Speaker:And one of the critical things, and the
Speaker:critical first step was, like I said, to
Speaker:have a vision for the future, to have
Speaker:goals, to have plans, because I wanted my
Speaker:body to be free. I didn't want this pain
Speaker:anymore. I wanted to be able to do things
Speaker:with my children as they were growing up.
Speaker:I didn't want to be complaining or making
Speaker:excuses, which is what I was doing. They
Speaker:were little kids. And I was like, I can't
Speaker:do that. Too tired I've got to do this
Speaker:because working too hard I had to do all
Speaker:these other things. Making excuses.
Speaker:And yeah, my body letting me down, ending
Speaker:up seeing all these different healthcare
Speaker:practitioners, trying to get my body
Speaker:right, not really making much progress.
Speaker:The moment I put that vision in place,
Speaker:I started creating concrete goals
Speaker:for all areas of my life, career,
Speaker:of course, health, family.
Speaker:All the personal stuff. Then everything
Speaker:started to change. My
Speaker:health started improving, solutions
Speaker:started showing up. I was able to
Speaker:continue to stick to my plans, sometimes
Speaker:adjust them as I went, and what I learned
Speaker:is you need to have a
Speaker:plan. Every day,
Speaker:every week. Every month, every quarter,
Speaker:every year. And then as I started
Speaker:coaching, like the more that I learn
Speaker:about this stuff and realise I had a bit
Speaker:of a knack for it. So the passing on to
Speaker:the people that was leading in my
Speaker:corporate job started passing on these
Speaker:same skills. And as a department, we
Speaker:started getting awesome results. I wasn't
Speaker:bringing that stuff home as much. I was
Speaker:feeling more purposeful, was enjoying
Speaker:life.
Speaker:That's what happened with planning and
Speaker:what I realise is the more I put plants
Speaker:in place and then reviewed them and
Speaker:started helping the people I was coaching
Speaker:doing that and they were getting nice and
Speaker:fantastic results and now it's like the
Speaker:foundational piece of what I coach
Speaker:and also. Still, the people
Speaker:location, whenever I run these events, it
Speaker:tends to be the people I've coached
Speaker:previously that come back and join in to
Speaker:do their session for the year. And it's
Speaker:something that I have picked up from
Speaker:learning from huge number of
Speaker:experts and then putting my own flavour
Speaker:to it because I know what works. And
Speaker:often the people that are telling you
Speaker:this information, they're so far removed
Speaker:from what it's like to be in that
Speaker:struggle that they don't really know. I
Speaker:don't really know the the the bits that
Speaker:really work. And that's why I've
Speaker:continued. To repeat
Speaker:these planning sessions every year
Speaker:because I know what's possible for
Speaker:people. They don't have to be in that
Speaker:place of feeling like they're struggling.
Speaker:I speak to people all the time and I'm
Speaker:like, oh, your job, you look like you
Speaker:love it. Like must be going well. And
Speaker:they're like, well, not so much. Like,
Speaker:oh, you know, it looks, you know, stuff
Speaker:on social media. It looks like you had a
Speaker:great holiday. It looks like, you know,
Speaker:having a lot of fun. It's like, well,
Speaker:those pictures don't tell the full story.
Speaker:And then they've got other health issues
Speaker:and challenges, and as they get older,
Speaker:they get more and more of those things.
Speaker:Without finding myself healthier,
Speaker:stronger, I'm having more time for what's
Speaker:most important and prioritising those
Speaker:thingsand making
Speaker:sure the work that I do that I enjoy.
Speaker:And surely there are some things that you
Speaker:have to sacrifice when you change
Speaker:direction. There are some things that you
Speaker:might have to just slow down with, but
Speaker:then you soon realise what's most
Speaker:important, but you only realise that
Speaker:when you have those things in place.
Speaker:When you have the vision, you
Speaker:have the goals and you have the plan.
Speaker:You have the plan mapped out for the
Speaker:year, you haven't broken into quarters,
Speaker:and you know with extreme certainty what
Speaker:you need to be doing at any given time.
Speaker:You have the confidence to make it
Speaker:happen. And you find
Speaker:yourself feeling more
Speaker:organised, so much better with your
Speaker:time. Are you not worrying about all of
Speaker:those things in the future because you've
Speaker:got certainty on what's coming? You're
Speaker:able to build more resilience, more
Speaker:strength, and it has a huge impact on the
Speaker:things that are really most important to
Speaker:you. Because when it comes down to
Speaker:it, people talk about what's
Speaker:most important and it's their health and
Speaker:it's their family and usually their
Speaker:career and their work is way down the
Speaker:list. Maybe not way down, but it's like
Speaker:it's, it's after those things. And
Speaker:yet the way they're living their life is
Speaker:not like that. And you might be feeling
Speaker:the same thing. You might be putting a
Speaker:lot of time and energy into your work and
Speaker:it might be taken up the best of you.
Speaker:It's not, it's not in your heart of
Speaker:hearts that you know you want because I
Speaker:tell you when people are facing their
Speaker:mortality. That's what they look
Speaker:at, I think now did I, did I work
Speaker:enough? No, they're not thinking that.
Speaker:They're thinking I work too hard and I
Speaker:didn't focus enough on the things that
Speaker:were most important. So
Speaker:if you know this is something you need.
Speaker:This 2025
Speaker:planning to set you up for having the
Speaker:best year you've had and to be able to
Speaker:start getting your health where you want
Speaker:it to have more of that quality time with
Speaker:your family. Start and find more purpose
Speaker:in your everyday. Then come and join me.
